Trauma Informed Resources
Recommended Resources
The following resources are great for learning more about trauma informed care. Everyone has had different experiences in life, some more traumatic than others. When considering adoption, foster care, or supporting foster/adoptive families.
1. Our #1 recommendation of where to start is to watch the Healing Family DVD series which lays a foundation for TBRI for parents and professionals. It is excellent for those just beginning, as well as those who’ve been walking with children for years. You can watch it alone or with a group of interested friends for interactive discussion. The heartbeat of TBRI is connection. Click here to watch for free.
2. Empowered to Connect - www.empoweredtoconnect.org
This is an online resource library with articles, audio, and video clips to empower parents, ministry leaders, and professionals to work through fear and behaviors such as manipulating, lying, and sensory dysregulation in order to bring healing to children from hard places.
3. The Connected Child, by Karyn Pervis, David Cross, and Wendy Sunshine,
This book is a guided study of the attachment bond and helping to heal the emotional trauma of hurt children. This book is essential for working with foster/adoptive children or families.
4. Trust-Based Relational Intervention is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable and hurt children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. A list of TBRI® trained practitioners can be accessed online through www.child.tcu.edu.
